Criteria
Importance
1. Directories must pass PageRank

Nofollow / noindex links:  Do not include directories that use “nofollow” attributes.  A Firefox add-on can be used to highlight nofollow links.

Redirected / Javascript type links: Do not include directories that use any kind of redirected links on the primary listing page. Javascript type links should not be included. To verify pass the mouse over the link and very that it links directly to the listing site. Links that do not have the standard format of <a href=””></a> should be considered suspect.

2. Banned domains

Domains that are banned by Google should not be included in the submissions list. Special care should be taken to periodically check PR0 directories. ff the site does not appear in the top 40 results then it is safe to say it is penalized.  An exception is when the domain has common words (like SEO, directory, free).  If there is a lot of competitive search results then it may be acceptable that a new site is a bit lower in the search results.

3. Approval rates

Directories with consistently low approval rates should be removed from the submission list.

4. Directories from poor quality networks

1. Directories hosted on the same IP:
- If a network has 4 or more directories hosted on the same IP then do not any of these directories.
- If there are less than 4 directories hosted on the same IP then include a maximum of 1 directory for in the submission list.

2. Directories hosted on the same IP C Class: If there are more than 8 directories hosted on the same IP C class then include a maximum of 1 directory for in the submission list.

5. Clone directories

1. Networks: Effort should be made to identify owners that create multiple directories with duplicate category structures. Large groups of clone directories with the same owner should be avoided.

2. Category dumps: If possible directories that use category dumps that are used hundreds of times should be avoided

6 Types of Directories

Directories should be properly categorized to ensure maximum approval rates. The general directory list should not contain directories that are specific to certain niches or specific to certain regions of the world.

.info domains: The use of these should be minimized as the domains are often purchased cheap and are less likely to be permanent sites.

Link Text: Directory links should use the title as link text rather than the domain name.

Number of Links per Page: There should be less than 50 listings per page.
